Where can Asbestos be found?

Asbestos is commonly used as an acoustic insulator, thermal insulation, fire proofing and in other building materials. Asbestos fibers are incredibly strong and have properties that make them resistant to heat. Many products are in used today that contain asbestos. Most of these are materials used in heat and acoustic insulation, fire proofing, and roofing and flooring.

where asbestos can be found

  • 1. Walls internal - AIB lining, cement boarding, artex wall coverings
  • 2. Ground contamination – all types of asbestos materials found contaminating ground
  • 3. Underground ducting – insulation on pipework or debris, AIB and cement lining, packing
  • 4. Basement – pipework, gaskets, boilers, calorifiers, AIB/cement ceiling panels
  • 5. Roof voids- paper lining, loose fill insulation, pipework, cement water tanks
  • 6. External walls – wall coverings, cement or AIB panels, soffit boards
  • 7. Under floor – ducting pipework, AIB packing
  • 8. Floor coverings – vinyl floor tiles, lino, promenade tiles,
  • 9. Internal walls – Cement or AIB panels, artex wall coverings
  • 10. Chimneys stacks or risers – cement flues, AIB/cement board linings
  • 11. Roof coverings – cement corrugated sheeting, slates, felt coverings, rainwater gutters
  • 12. Miscellaneous products – toilet cisterns, lift shaft linings, fire blankets
